Board of Supervisors Proclaims Women Veterans Recognition Day

On May 12, 2026, the San Joaquin County Board of Supervisors officially proclaimed June 12, 2026, as Women Veterans Recognition Day, honoring the 1948 Act that allowed women to serve permanently in the U. S. Armed Forces. Members of Warrioress League 209 gathered for this momentous recognition of all women who served our nation.

San Joaquin County women veterans form a connection through the bond of shared experiences while serving our country. Some guest speakers talk about available programs and benefits. One woman veteran will often share her story of perseverance in the many challenges she faced.

Did you ever feel the urge to share your thoughts and memories but just didn’t know where to start? Let Debbie Gifford, U.S. Army veteran and retired English teacher, teach you how to do it in a warm, inviting space. Debbie focuses on one skill each week, Students write for 20 minutes and then have the opportunity to share their work if they wish.
